I set up different boards for baseball basketball and football. This will to some degree keep viperous arguments down to minimum level.

I intend to appoint league officers from each league as moderators to assure to public gets accurate information. I intend to see too it that the forums are a nice place.

Additional resources have been alloted to each youth sport section to support multiple topics. That means that the parents of each team can have their own thread in the fabric of the overall forum.

I like children too but I am too dum and too fat to be a coach so I will stick to being a silly computer programmer.

roflmao...........No I didn't even watch Katie Lee. Now I'm glad I didn't lol yuck asparagus!!! Do you think Granny had a Cuisinart, and made Spinach Pesto Salad????? I don't need another fashion magazine, and from what you all have said here, that is exactly what it is. I believe I can use my iron skillet, and whip up my own cornbread, without a Cuisinart! (I would hate to cut an arm off making cornbread lmao) Doesn't surprise me re: Rob Johnson, he sounded like he was going to cry, when he announced that Billy wouldn't be with her the day he announced she was coming.

Who can think of "cooking lessons" when I'm thinking of getting a rugby team started You mention beer at the concession stands, a prop holding up "hookers"...........who has time to think about cooking?

Breath, where are you today? You haven't posted anything. Did you get your hand caught in the Cuisinart while trying to make Katie Lee Joel's Spinach Pesto Pasta Salad that she demonstrated on WSAZ? Rob Johnson was gushing all over himself, but I can't think you were that impressed. The dish had asparagus, and I know how fond you are of that vegetable!

Well I don't personally know her, however I did meet her a few times and when she was at a Meet the Candidate forum last month, the things she stated were some of the things our school needs. I do know I will not vote for Clark or Barr. I am not a Bartholomew fan either. I do know that any time I have contacted the BOE for anything, and some personal emails to Mr. Smith, he was great to get back to me and answer any questions I had or concerns. No matter what we think, the board will do what they think is best, I know that George Watson is a great candidate as well. I will say I didn't know him very well during the last elections, however he would be a good candidate as well. He does have children in the school system so I am sure he will do what he thinks is right for the children of Cabell County. He is a younger fellow so he is not our of date on schooling issues. I hope I have helped and if I think of anything else I will let you know.

I was not calling him down. I suggested that he read the terms of service because I have already stated my intention of making the coaches moderators of the youth sports section. A moderator has to know the terms of service to moderate. Perhaps there is a communication misunderstanding. Is Mr. Donahue a coach too. We will make them co moderators if they desire or create a seperate section for baseball basketball and football.

If I were calling him down under the TOS I would have cited the section that he violated. I did not do that. I just suggested that he read it.

Jarfly I am not qualified to manage that section of the board. I am just a dumb computer programmer.

Whatever you want to do to make the newcomers welcome I will go along with. Talk to them and set them up with as much resources as they want and set them up with a mod for the section. I am glad to see the youth sports people here.

Assigning moderators to each section of the board involves more members of the community in forum management and that is the goal of a community forum. Jarfly will continue in her role as co-admin (supervisor) of the board.

I have to come to Coach Jake's defense, too. I don't know the circumstances behind the problems with youth sports, but I felt Coach was stating his case. There may be more to this than I understand, but he should feel free to offer his opinion, even if it differs from the majority, etc. I didn't detect anything objectionable.

MiltonMom, would you care to give your reasons for choosing these candidates? I am not very informed in this race, and if I don't find out more within the next couple of days, I won't vote for BOE, because choosing the wrong person could be a big mistake. We had some nuts in there before, like Rex Bartholomew. Do you know anything about Skip Parsons? I see a lot of his signs, but I don't know anything about him. What IYO makes Oxley a good candidate? Thanks...I'd like some comments from parents.

RE: Milton's Cultural Scene

The signature dish for Milton right now should be Chit on a Shingle. I think every restaurant should be required to serve it. I’ll bet Katie has a basic spaghetti sauce recipe in her cookbook and the anecdote goes something like this: “There is a restaurant in my hometown of Huntington called Jim’s Spaghetti House. Every time I go home, I go there to eat. I have gallons of the sauce shipped in dry ice to my house in the Hamptons. Our friends Howard Stern, Jerry Seinfeld and Rachel Ray say it is the best they’ve ever tasted. Jim won’t give out the secret ingredient, but I’ve worked for years to duplicate the recipe. I think I finally did it.”

Well, honey, I ate at Jim’s once. I think the “secret” is a 99-cent jar of Ragu. A relative of Katie’s told me the first time she took Billy there, he was up all night puking, and he couldn’t come downstairs the next day for the family get-together. I’m not saying Jim’s spaghetti made him sick. Sometimes when I eat acidic foods like spaghetti and then drink heavily, my stomach churns, too.

I knew a guy from Milton who played scrumhalf (I think) for Htgn. It might be the same guy you know. I went to some of their parties. WOW! If we had teams here, we could dedicate some rugby songs to the mayor like ‘Thunderballs’, ‘Mrs. Murphy’, or ‘My God How the Money Rolls In’. (Look them up on the Internet.)

I just think it is interesting.

But I can tell you a funny story one of the guys told. He had to go to the dr. right after the game because when he touched his legs, arms, stomach and head it really hurt. The dr. told him, “It probably does, because you broke your finger.”

The guy I know from Milton who played with the Htgn. club was a prop. They hold up the "hookers"...sometimes forcibly. Were those other players U.S. Marshalls or FBI guys?

Well I was in the school during consolidation and I truely beleive that times have changed and it is important that our children get the best they can with today's society. We pay taxes and we need to think about who we put in next week. I am going with Oxley for sure, most definatly NOT CLARK. I know too much about him and he is not a good candidate at all in my opinion. I wouldn't vote for him if he was the ONLY deligate on the ticket.

Who is on the travel team board I guess will remain as big as mystery as who is on the board at MLLB.I cannot tell you without speaking to the members first but it isnt some big hidden secret,I cannot speak for someone without asking permission from them first.I will tell you this,it is comprised of the parents of the players so we can all agree or disagree on what we think would be best for our children as a whole. There is really no one person who has more say than the other. It all comes to a vote and majority as always rules, but it always comes back to the kids and what they think. As always,Thank you for your question.

Whew, glad I found you all! You know I know Milton is low on culture, but I had no idea LL was considered culture? Was looking for a topic, and low and behold there was postings from LL under culture! I don't know if they have been standing out on that LL field so long, that they have been exposed to the sewer fumes coming from behind Blenko Glass, or just lost Would love to see that much enthusiam when one of their toilets explode, when Boss buys up their property for another condo, and when its time to vote Hey Rugby sounds like the perfect sport for Milton! We should start our own team, the miltonwv miracles, Stephs Stompers, Heck Hellraisers. We could take on the Brass Balls team, whatever name we have, I think we could stomp the hell out of them, til they were praying for a miracle

RE: Milton Youth Football

TSYF does NOT have a play rule in effect; therefore, it is up to the President of football to implement a play rule, if they so choose. It is not mandatory. Two other local leagues have a very weak play rule. Barboursville has a big law suit over a child paying to play and not getting to (Mom is a Lawyer). They tell me the case looks strong for the child.

TSYF is going to watch us to see how our play rule is going to work. Player numbers are down all over TSYF.

Since parents are paying for their child to play...ALL KIDS WILL PLAY!

Every player will be required to play 3 plays per half (6 per game).

If a player misses 2 or more practices during the game week, the play rule is out.

If a parent misses a schedule CS work date their Child's play rule is out. Cheerleaders are required to show up for more the 3 practices a week.

If a team has less than 20 players I might increase more plays.

If a Coach does not play a player for all of their plays, next week that players play rule doubles, even if player played 5 plays, he will be required to play 12 next game.

If a coach does not play the required plays for any one player, he will be placed on probation. If there is a second offense, he will be suspended one game. Third offense, he will be dismissed as a coach for the remainder of the season.

We will have 5 home games. One will be a preseason game. We may possibly get another preseason game.

During the home games throughout the season, everychild's name will be mentioned at least once over the loudspeaker for a good play, assist, block, tackle, etc.

More information to come. Keep checking in daily.

Thanks to all who have kept the forum geared toward football.

RE: Milton's Cultural Scene

PnKnSd wrote:

I guess this is considered culture, and I didn't want to put it under the serious stuff. I saw a TV ad that Larry Townsend's niece Katie Lee Joel (married to Billy) is going to be on Oprah tomorrow showing her new NY digs. She is supposed to cook something, too. If it is like the other times I saw her on TV, she will have a fake southern accent, and she'll tell Oprah she's a southern girl who grew up in the south. She never mentions Milton, but sometimes she says WV. (When was WV ever southern?) She said she learned southern cooking from her southern grandmother, who is a fabulous cook. Well, that's a matter of opinion. I've been to enough covered dish dinners in Milton to know there are a whole lot better cooks. Katie gives the impression she had to walk 5 miles down a dirt road with no shoes in the dead of winter to get to Cabell Midland. Hell, her grandma lives in a nice house in Jackson Hgts. I wish me and my granny could be on Oprah one day. We could demonstrate some good white trash cookin. My granny can make the best weenies and tortellinis you ever ate. I guess I should put this on the spoof page, but the part about Katie Lee being on Oprah is true.

One of Katie Lee Joel’s family members was peddling her new cookbook, ‘The Comfort Table’ in the neighborhood for the bargain price of $14.95. Well, I can see why! It won’t be long until you can pick up the book for $3.00 plus s/h from Amazon.

At first, I thought I’d buy a copy, because it would make a nice gift, especially for Mother’s Day. My mother can’t cook, but even she would be insulted. The book is filled with basic amateurish recipes everyone should already know…meatloaf, deviled eggs, peach cobbler, biscuits and gravy.

There were at least 40 glamour girl fashion photos of Katie in the cookbook, which struck me as a bit pretentious and narcissistic. At the head of each recipe was a cute family anecdote

Tomorrow, Katie will be cooking on WSAZ and signing books at local bookstores. The book typically sells for about $25, and I suggest you save your money. Just to make sure I was making a fair judgment of the book, I looked up several sources of reviews. Folks, they aren’t good! Some reviewers gave it 1 star out of 5. One mentioned they did not hesitate to ship it back. Another returned it to Borders, where the sales clerk said it was the 3rd return she’d had of that book so far that day. One reviewer said it was like a group of 6th graders had gotten together and assembled a cookbook. Another suggested, like Heather Bresch, Katie was given bogus cooking credentials just so she could host the 1st season of Bravo’s Top Chef, and a cook she was NOT.

If all you are wanting are family anecdotes, there are probably plenty of people in Milton who can share stories that are even more interesting than those in the book. The best part is, it won’t cost a thing!

How was the tt detremental to the ll? If it wasn't then the coaches should be coaching. How many girls play asa softball and still play ll, and how many coaches, coach asa and ll softball teams with no problems. Its all about who's in charge.

As for the softball coaches not knowing the rules and being good choaches, try and find one kid on the team that isn't having fun and one parent who dosen't like the coaches. You won't.

The ll has been as unorganized as it anything could be since registeration and try outs, which they had in the middle of winter so that they could get their money as soon as possible. If you think it is bad this year, if wilamsport dosen't do something to help us out what do you think next year will be like.

I love rugby.

The team back in the late ‘80s –early ‘90s was made up mostly of FBI agents assigned to eastern Ky. to catch bank robbers, chop shop operators and ppl in the drug underworld. I remember they were a wild bunch after a rugby game. But I can tell you a funny story one of the guys told. He had to go to the dr. right after the game because when he touched his legs, arms, stomach and head it really hurt. The dr. told him, “It probably does, because you broke your finger.”

Damn. I hate to veer from topic, but those sports parents are passionate! I would never wish anything bad on anyone, but I have to admit, I’m secretly hoping with all the rain this week that the sewer comes up in one of the sports mom’s kitchen sink. They would be over at city hall in a flash and they’d have Betty Sargent’s A$$ in a knot faster than you could yell “PLAY BALL.” I think the sewer people on the board need a sports mom advocate to help them!

I think I have a solution to their problems, if they’d just listen. First they have to do away with all youth sports and introduce RUGBY. Now there’s a sport! There would be no fighting over directors, because there would be the “Maker’s Mark” league and the “Rev. Jakes” league. “Maker’s Mark would be the aggressive league out to win. They could get corporate sponsorship, especially if they sold Maker’s Mark barbecue ribs at the concession stand. The “Rev. Jakes” league would be the less aggressive league…mostly comprised of those wanting to have fun and play ball. If they win once in awhile, they can claim divine intervention. The real Rev. Jakes, who is originally from this area, can funnel some of his cash from his mega church to help the team.

The concession stand will have to apply for a beer license and offer Bud Light on tap if they want to make any money. Furthermore, beer and rugby are more or less synonymous. I also think, for the abuse she’ll have to endure, Angie should be given a tip jar and allowed to keep the extra for herself.

Rugby is a family sport. There could be boys and girl’s teams from kids age 5 through adult. Milton could become the Rugby Capital of WV. Young women wanting to train in Milton, in hopes of being accepted on the MU Women’s Rugby team, could boost part of the economy. (To earn extra cash residents could take in rugby boarders.)

I know a woman, who was on the MU team while she was in med school at Marshall. She’s had repeated plastic surgeries, a glass eye, a permanent bald spot on one side of her head, and she walks with a cane and drags her left leg. But the last time I saw her, she was still extolling the benefits of how rugby prepared her for life, especially now that she practices in a clinic in Big Ugly in Lincoln Co.

I would propose that young men not be introduced to raunchy bawdy rugby songs until they are at least 16. My favorite…The Hair on Her Di……...well, enough said, is better left to a more mature group. The young men who excel at rugby will be a shoe-in for the Huntington Amateur Team.

I had a friend who played for them and I went to a couple of their parties. Now they could show Betty Sargent a thing or two about throwing parties! They’re wicked.

So who couldn’t support rugby…a game that has “hookers,” but no money ever changes hands?
